Founder and Executive Director of Enharmonic Encounters LLC, a small, Black-owned business that builds bridges toward a more unified world through sustainability translation and consulting, Jeffrey D. Stewart first discovered his vocation during a two-year sojourn in Brazil as a Fulbright grantee, where he worked in the modern languages departments of two federal universities. Among his academic activities, he partnered with translation and law professors to enable an English-speaking readership to access research findings in the social sciences.
Returning home after that period eager to implement his acquired language and cultural competencies to launch his career, Jeffrey began working at B Lab Global as a Business Sustainability Analyst where he identified for-profit companies in Brazil and across Latin America transforming how business is done. It was through this experience that Jeffrey came to internalize the belief that business can be used as a force for good, to benefit both people and the planet.
It quickly became clear that Jeffrey’s mission constituted a dual devotion to both language services and the B Impact Assessment. His expertise covers every area of the B Certification process, having reviewed and personally conferred certification to hundreds of companies all over the world. Equipped with this unique perspective around the inner workings, pain points, and success strategies in transforming businesses to truly embody what it means to be a Certified B Corporation, Jeffrey’s specialized guidance positions companies to reach the finish line, while also taking delight in the journey. In 2023, Jeffrey was among the first group of consultants to receive the “Trained B Consultant” designation, resulting from an initiative by B Lab U.S. & Canada to recognize pertinent professionals who guide companies on their B Certification journey.
While executing this transformation is key, communicating that transformation is equally as inspiring, and indeed a worldwide pursuit, given that accountability needs to be shared beyond a local context. As a translator working from Arabic into English, and certified by the American Translators Association (ATA) from Portuguese into English and a GRI Certified Sustainability Professional, Jeffrey’s aggressive involvement in sustainability topics and research as a part of the B Community ensures that documents and reports reach English-speaking stakeholders in a way that clearly communicates the positive impact companies are implementing in their operations.
Jeffrey understands his unique position at the helm of initiatives aimed at preserving the planet and is motivated by his desire to be a part of solutions that ensure the survival of our world.
