SSE is committed to retraining & reskilling employees and will run a STEM Returner programme for those out of a STEM career for 5+ years as well as launch a pilot programme for new talent transitioning from other sectors. It will report annually

Activities & Initiatives

Increase the ease of skills transfer for low-carbon careers and attract a broad and diverse range of employees from other STEM careers. Provide enhanced support and training for these employees develop the skills needed for a low-carbon career.

Measures & Targets

Report on the progress of the STEM Returner program, including the number of employees that have joined SSE through the programme and the outcomes of employees on this programme. Launch the pilot Engineering Conversion Programme by the end of financial year 2022/23 and record key outcomes and learnings for potential further roll-out.

SSE is committed to high quality employee engagement & ongoing dialogue with its recognized trade union partners on the just transition & will hold at least two meetings a year on this topic, beyond its usual structured engagement with union partners

Activities & Initiatives

Engage with union partners in a meaningful way on SSE’s just transition approach to ensure that employee voice is recognized through this channel, as well as through other direct engagement with employees. Use these insights to further develop SSE’s just transition approach for the worker transition.

Measures & Targets

At least two meetings per year with SSE’s recognized trade union partners specifically on the just transition from financial year 2021/22 onwards.

SSE is supporting development of competitive UK domestic supply chains alongside government & other industry partners, with the aim of reaching the UK’s Offshore Wind Sector Deal target of 60% lifetime content for major offshore wind projects by 2030

Activities & Initiatives

To use SSE’s influence to support a competitive vibrant domestic supply chain for the UK’s offshore wind sector, leading to new jobs being created and generating local economic impact.

Measures & Targets

Be a proactive partner with Government and suppliers with the aim of reaching the UK’s Offshore Wind Sector Deal target of 60% UK lifetime content for major offshore wind projects by 2030. Measure the UK content of major offshore wind farm projects and report on the direct and supply chain jobs created in the UK.
