RESHAPE implements and disseminates new approaches that transform the lives of all people who are or have been imprisoned, providing them with the tools and stimuli necessary for their effective reintegration
Serving time in a small-scale home makes it easier to get to know each inmate on an individual basis and to make tailor-made reintegration proposals. Other advantages of small scale are reduced bureaucracy and better management of security measures.
The social reintegration of the prisoner - one of the main purposes of imprisonment - will only be fully achieved if the period of imprisonment allows a two-way involvement with the community. On the one hand, prisoners should be able to benefit from the services available in the local community, provided by social workers, psychologists, doctors, teachers and volunteers.
In this way, fundamental rights are ensured and key support networks are established upon return to freedom. On the other hand, people in prison can add value to the local community by creating social businesses, for example in catering, repairs or growing and selling vegetables.
This involvement in activities with an impact on society opens up space for the symbolic and financial restoration of the damage caused by crime.
Each person in prison must be given different treatment.
Levels of security and reintegration programs should be adapted to each individual. From a cost-benefit point of view, this differentiated treatment has proven to be a favorable solution, as it is also the one that most favors the reintegration and rehabilitation of people in prison.
A differentiated approach should also be holistic, working on the most diverse dimensions common to any human being, whether in prison or not.
