Bangladesh Environment and Development Society (BEDS)
The BEDS (Bangladesh Environment and Development Society) is a leading community-based, non-profit, environment and development-focused non-government organization committed to maintaining ecological balance and harmony between humans and nature. BEDS was established to solve complex environmental and social problems in Bangladesh together with local people through respecting local knowledge and culture. We believe that any kind of conservation initiatives becomes successful and sustainable when local communities are on board; fully understand the value of their participation and long-term benefits.

Purpose

Our Mission The Mission is to build the capacity of the most vulnerable communities to ensure the sustainable use of natural resources, provide eco-friendly means of living, reduce the adverse effects of climate change, and improve their socio-economic condition while maintaining ecological balance.

The Solution Rural reconstruction and ecosystem restoration will be the key solutions for the overall development and conservation of the marginal coastal community and vulnerable environment. This can be achieved by planting and regenerating mangroves; raising awareness in collaboration with local people in terms of biodiversity conservation; coastal protection; promotion of mangrove-based alternative livelihoods, entrepreneurship development; clean solar energy equipment and services; and climate change adaptation and mitigation. Addressing the aforementioned issues for social and environmental development would be ensured by establishing multi-stakeholder collaborations and stable finances.

Our Impact A local initiative in terms of climate change adaptation and mitigation to protect coastal people from eco-social issues is a core impact of BEDS. These interventions are directing alternative and climate-adaptive sustainable livelihood options; climate resilient communities; capable youth leaders; knowledgeable eco-friendly mass communities; coastal protection, rich biodiversity and carbon will be sequestered. Sustainable livelihood is the key to making a community less vulnerable to disasters and climate change and improves social health, the environment, equity, rights and gender development. Women's participation in social activities and overall family income will increase as a result of these efforts, as will the next generation's awareness of their social and environmental responsibilities.
