Sunmoon Jang is the Executive Director of Communitas America. In her role, she aligns programs and operations with the mission and vision of the organization. In response to Covid19, she kickstarted a pilot project that translates local data into community assets and stories called CASA, which will be realized in 2024. She has always been interested in creating innovative projects that have been undervalued but could expand access to opportunities in an urban environment. In 2022, Communitas America was selected as a New York State certified business incubator by NYSTAR, ESD’s Division of Science, Technology, & Innovation, with a focus on creating a local impact entrepreneurial ecosystem in the Bronx and Harlem in New York City. She has spoken at the Asian Venture Philanthropy Network (AVPN) and Foundation Chanel’s bi-annual conference, Ensemble, regarding women’s empowerment (2018) and researched gender inequality in venture capital in the U.S. (2016). Sunmoon has a BA in Philosophy from Sogang University and a Master’s Degree from Pratt Institute and an MPA from Columbia University.
