North American Properties (NAP) develops, manages, and invests in real estate. NAP’s projects include multifamily and student housing, mixed-use, retail and grocery-anchored shopping centers, hotels and offices, and condominium developments across the U.S. While Real Estate is the core of NAP, more recently, NAP has diversified and invested in portfolio companies to build strong businesses that include Eleeo Brands, Nehemiah Manufacturing Co., Skyline Chili, Inc., and the Cincinnati Reds. NAP makes meaningful investments so communities can thrive. We have done it with stability, strength, and a strong investment in our people since 1954.

Summary

North American Properties commits to working with its portfolio company, Nehemiah Manufacturing Co., to promote diversity and inclusion by hiring second-chance citizens for 75% of our workforce. Our workforce is very diverse, many of whom are women and minorities.

Activities & Initiatives

Back in 2009, I partnered with Dan Meyer (IC steward) and founded Nehemiah Manufacturing Co. Nehemiah Manufacturing is a consumer products company located in Cincinnati. We founded Nehemiah with the specific purpose of creating jobs in the inner city. We purposely located our main facility in a very challenging neighborhood. Fourteen years later we are proud to say that over 75% of our workforce (over 150 people) have been incarcerated for crimes ranging from misdemeanors to serious felonies. Our workforce is very diverse, many of whom are women and minorities. Our current plan is to double the size of the company in less than three years and greatly increase our workforce of second-chance citizens.

Measures & Targets

We will measure progress by tracking the percentage of second-chance citizens in the workforce with a total goal of doubling the employee size in three years.
