As part of our Digital Inclusion work, Verizon has committed to helping 1 million young people gain the skills needed to fully participate in the digital economy by 2030.

Activities & Initiatives

We work hand-in-hand with nonprofit partners, education and technology experts to build and administer STEM-focused programs that create the kinds of transformations that change lives.  This school year Verizon Innovative Learning is expanding to 264 new Title I middle and high schools across the country, for a total of 511 schools. In addition, as educators prepare for the 2021–2022 academic year, they will have a remarkable new resource at their disposal: Verizon Innovative Learning HQ, an online education portal that offers lesson plans, credentialed professional development, and next-gen learning for all, to help ensure no student is left behind.

Verizon will measure its progress by documenting the number of youths served by our program, with the goal of reaching 10 million by 2030.

Activities & Initiatives

We are supporting communities by reskilling and upskilling individuals most vulnerable in the future economy, helping people prosper through a commitment to volunteerism, and fostering an inclusive environment for both our employees and suppliers. Our upskilling/reskilling program, Verizon Skill Forward, aims to prepare 500,000 workers for jobs of the future by 2030 and we seek to help at least 50% of program graduates find work within 3 months of course completion.

We recognize climate change as a serious threat to society that warrants meaningful action and we are doing our part to meet the enormity of this challenge. We have set long-term and interim goals to address current and future climate-related risks. Our primary long-term goal is to achieve net zero emissions in our operations by 2035. In support of this goal, we have two interim goals: a science-based operational emissions reduction target and a renewable energy goal.

Activities & Initiatives

Verizon helps small businesses achieve digitally readiness and resiliency through Verizon Small Business Digital Ready, is an online curriculum designed to give small businesses personalized tools to succeed in today’s digital world. We also offer mentorship and grant opportunities.

Verizon will measure progress by tracking the number of individuals positively impacted with a goal of reaching 1 million small businesses.

Verizon commits to 100% pay equity in salary for men and women globally and with respect to race and ethnicity within the United States.

Activities & Initiatives

Verizon will continuously monitor its hiring and compensation practices. In 2021, across all of Verizon, we had 100% pay equity in salary for women and men. In the U.S., we also had 100% pay equity in salary with respect to race and ethnicity.

We have taken steps to identify and manage our human rights impacts; established comprehensive policies, processes and systems to address corruption and bribery; and through our advocacy, volunteering and financial donations supported issues including criminal justice reform and efforts to fight online child exploitation.

Verizon will source or generate renewable energy equivalent to 50% of our total annual electricity consumption by 2025.

Activities & Initiatives

Verizon is already one of the largest buyers of alternative energy in the United State and is one of the largest corporate green bond issuers in the U.S. Our green bond program is instrumental to our efforts to meet our long-term operational net zero goal and interim renewable energy goal. Since 2019, we have issued $4 billion in green bonds. We have allocated nearly $3 billion of net proceeds, and intend to allocate the remaining net proceeds, primarily to finance, in whole or in part, VPPAs for new renewable energy projects.
