Silicon Valley Leadership Group
Since our founding in 1977, the Silicon Valley Leadership Group has worked to develop, promote, pass and implement policy initiatives that benefit our members, their employees, and the Bay Area. As the tech industry moved to the forefront of our global economy, the SVLG’s policy work expanded beyond the confines of Silicon Valley. The challenges of 2020 have sharpened our understanding of our policy goals. Schools must have access to technology to function. STEM careers are essential to the health of our population globally. We learned that many of us could work from home effectively, reducing road congestion, and carbon emissions. California and the United States must actively work on all aspects of climate change. The approach must be comprehensive, from reducing carbon emissions to resiliency projects for communities impacted by flooding, fires, mud, and other climate consequences. We saw the pain of communities torn apart by injustice. In direct response to the losses of Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and George Floyd, our Board of Directors voted unanimously to support the formation of the Racial Justice and Equity Portfolio. Through advocacy, policy initiatives, and work with our partners, this portfolio will contribute to the equity of Black, Brown, and indigenous (BIPOC) people in our community and in our businesses. These are challenging times, but working together on these and other issues will help us move our businesses and communities into a brighter future. The Leadership Group stands, as we have for nearly 50 years, working to improve today and looking towards a bright, equitable future.
