Semicolon is a social enterprise addressing the problem of youth unemployment by building technology talents and developing the leaders of tomorrow that will become the skilled workforce of the future. We bring this to life by identifying talented minds, guiding them through innovative training, deploying them effectively and collaborating with others to build sustainable solutions for society. Our focus is on preparing people, particularly young talent, for the digital era, deploying the talent and nurturing the talent. Our mission - enable Africa’s digital transformation by building tech-focused talent and businesses. Our vision - Africa will be home to a talented, thriving technology community. What we do:

  1. Building Talent: through our 1-year software engineering program; Cohort based learning with core modules on problem solving, software engineering and business management.
  2. Building New Businesses: Semicolon Ventures helps turn innovative ideas into new businesses by providing early-stage support and first funding.
  3. Enabling Digital Transformation for Corporates: Recruitment for tech talent, software engineering outsourcing, project implementation.
  4. Enum: our digital platform building Africa’s knowledge economy and accelerating digital transformation by unlocking human capital.

Summary

Semicolon will create jobs for youths in Africa by training 10,000 youths in software engineering and techpreneurship skills by 31 December 2025.

Activities & Initiatives

Semicolon will reduce youth unemployment in Africa by training software engineers and placing them in jobs. We will also train tech entrepreneurs who will address critical challenges and create jobs. We will work with these tech entrepreneurs to launch their businesses and provide their first equity financing of at least $25,000 through Semicolon Ventures. In addition, we will enable companies achieve their digital transformation objectives by providing talent and digital skills they need through software engineering outsourcing and workforce upskilling.

Measures & Targets

Semicolon will measure progress by tracking the number of people trained, percentage employed, startups founded, jobs created via these startups, capital deployed to the startups, new solutions built and overall economic addition from all these activities.
