Media Policy Center
Founded as a 501c3 in 2003 by Harry Wiland and Dale Bell, honored by Ashoka in 2006 as the only business partnership and professional media strategy organization, we---the Media Policy Center---are headquartered in Santa Monica, CA. Our 7 employees, and others under contract, produce social justice content for more than 330 PBS stations nationally, as well as for some global entities through broadcast and streaming platforms. Our annual budget fluctuates between $500K and $2M; we do not track market capitalization. We are now in development on a new 5-part PBS project, IMAGINE DEMOCRACY.  We began filming in 2013 at the 50th anniversary of the original March on Washington in D.C., where we heard a resurgence of democracy in the streets.

Purpose

MPC strives to inform, challenge, and ultimately engage a responsive citizenry, to encourage full and meaningful engagement across the political, social, and economic spectrum, focusing on inequities, children, elders, public health, corporate governance, climate, and education, all threaded with social justice and inequitable racial issues.

Our new 5-part PBS broadcast and streaming media initiative, IMAGINE DEMOCRACY, as it is funded and rolled out, provides opportunities for members of Inclusive Capitalism to align with: our new intellectual capital that will deal with inequities everywhere; the inclusive young people who are our eyes and ears as producers and researchers, some of whom come from the HBCUs and from Harvard College; the younger generations who will be our domestic and global audiences; the network of Historic Black Colleges and Universities like Clark Atlanta University; our community building and outreach engagement activities such as localized/televised town hall meetings; and the reconfiguration of our original content for dissemination on multiple digital platforms.
