CalPERS often hears calls for it to divest from certain companies or business sectors. In this discussion with Politico, CEO Marcie Frost and Anne Simpson, CalPERS managing investment director for Board Governance and Sustainability, discuss why CalPERS believes engaging with companies is the more effective approach to dealing with important issues.

“One of the things we found out is when you divest, you frankly lose your voice to affect change, and that’s why this engagement piece of our strategy is so important,” Frost says.
