Shaarad Maharaj is an experienced business executive, award-winning tech entrepreneur, Executive Director and CEO at TradeBRICS Group which he has led into becoming one of Africa’s largest import-export conglomerates trading over 1.2 million products and services across 157 sub-industries through their flagship cross-border eCommerce platform.

The TradeBRICS Group CEO and Executive Director is widely lauded for his enigmatic and innovative leadership style. He is internationally recognized for his passion to drive Africa’s digital transformation. He has received global acclaim by working closely with international Governmental organizations such as the Global Department of Trade and Industry, the U.S. Consulate, and thousands of large corporations from the private sector to create a more inclusive and diverse economy that benefits the most vulnerable communities across emerging markets. He is currently leading the TradeBRICS Group international expansion across Australia, Europe, and the Americas.

He graduated from the University of Cape Town with a bachelor’s degree in Commerce which helped launch his international career in eCommerce, software, and digital technology working with global clients across different sectors like BP, PwC, Massmart, and AngloAmerican.

He has been recognized with numerous awards for his innovative leadership and works across eCommerce in Africa. In 2011, he was voted as one of the leading young African entrepreneurs by Dale Carnegie Leadership. In 2021 he was notably recognized by Grindstone as one of three leading entrepreneurs across Africa; later that year, he acceded into the prestigious Harambeans Alliance, a collective of visionary entrepreneurs building Africa’s future.

In 2022, he was conferred with the 30 Young Mandela’s of the Future, a major honor recognizing African leaders who are driving transformation across Africa, for his work in creating inclusive economic opportunities across the continent within vulnerable communities and playing a pivotal role to help alleviate poverty through technology by creating job opportunities for Women and youth in rural communities. Later in 2022, he was honored to be one of twenty African Business Hero recipients by the Jack Ma Foundation.
